PAT Testing

I'm a York-based PAT tester with a DBS check and public liability insurance. Get a quote from me today via the email below.👇

Hello there! My name is Imogen, nice to meet you. I’m a York based audio engineer and PAT tester. I’ve over five years' experience with music technology and audio, including live sound, recordings and cable repair. Recently I expanded my skills into PAT testing, due a need to get my own equipment tested and wanting to add a string to my freelance bow. I got my full day’s PAT test training in Leeds in 2025 and I’m now PAT testing all over North Yorkshire and surrounding areas such as Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds. But if you’re in my local area of York, even better because I’m always up for hearing about other York residents’ ideas on the best things to do in your spare time here.

Since 2020 (yes, even through the pandemic) I’ve worked in schools all over Yorkshire in a number of roles ranging from cover supervisor to teaching assistant to music technician (one of my favourite jobs). During that time, I’ve learned loads about working in schools, especially music departments. It also taught me skills like time management, organisation and quick thinking which serve me well in my freelance life. I consider this field to be one of my niches. When I was a music technician, I got a lot of experience in peri organisation (including not annoying the teachers by booking the same guitar lesson over the same English lesson each week!), instrument restringing (and mild repair), cable repair, audio recording and live sound. If you’re a head of department (or a music teacher) local to Yorkshire, send me an email at imogenwheal@outlook.com. I can sort your PAT testing out (you might have had a general PAT testing but I know some music departments have cupboards full of untested things) and I can sort your music department out as well with GCSE coursework recording, coursework submission, peri organisation, cable repair and much more.

However! I am not limited to schools! If you are a Yorkshire based business, it’s important to get PAT tested as many insurances require you have up to date PAT testing to make a claim (hopefully you ever need to make one). In addition to insurance, it’s important to keep your PAT testing up to date to stay in line with three legislations. These are The Health and Safety at Work ect Act 1974, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, and The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. These are legislations businesses must keep to, which state that electrical maintenance is necessary to fulfil the legislation’s requirement that equipment remains safe. If you are a Yorkshire (and surrounding areas) business and you require PAT testing, email me at imogenwheal@outlook.com.

I want to be upfront with my customers. I charge £1 per item if you have 60 items or more. If you have less than 60 items, I charge £30/hour instead of per item to keep it simple. For most items, a PAT test is a visual inspection (checking that there are no cracks or dodgy wiring) and then a test with the PAT machine to check the inside workings, which includes an earth continuity test and an insulation resistance test. I’ll classify the item and record all the readings. I’m not in the business of taking up all your time so I’ll try to go as quickly as possible. Once all the PAT tests are carried out, you’ll be sent an invoice to be paid within 30 days from the date on the invoice and once it’s been paid, you’ll receive your results in case (again, hopefully you’ll never need to) you need to claim on your insurance. Every appliance will also have a sticker for PASS/FAIL, so you can clearly see which of your appliances may need replacing – it is up to you as the duty manager whether you replace them or not.

I’ve got lots to offer you regardless of whether you are a business or a school. I’d love to hear from you via imogenwheal@outlook.com. I have a DBS check and public liability insurance so all you need to do is get in contact! Have a fab day and thanks for reading this far.
